Saab Bofors Dynamics to make staff cutbacks in Gothenburg

20 people are being served with notice as a consequence of falling demand for developmental work in the field of mechanical and electronic design at the company’s development division in Gothenburg.

"It is difficult having to make decisions on cut-backs that affect so many skilled workers. We will of course do what we can to ensure that the consequences for those workers affected are as minor as possible," says Bernt Gustafson, development manager at Saab Bofors Dynamics.

The company’s division in Gothenburg, which employs 43 people, works on advanced development in IR (Infra Red) technology – a technology that is used in missile targeting systems as well as in other applications. The change in direction, which will be taking place within the operation in the next few years, will result in a staff surplus in mechanical and electronic design. In order to adapt to this new situation, the company has decided to enter into negotiations with the trade union branches affected on winding down part of the operation. Notices for 20 people have been handed in to the county employment board in Västra Götaland. Negotiations will be started at the earliest opportunity.

Saab is one of the world’s leading high-technology companies, with its main operations focusing on defense, aviation and space. The group covers a broad spectrum of competence and capability in systems integration.
