Saab Training Systems awarded British contracts worth 135 million SEK
Saab Training Systems, Huskvarna, Sweden has been awarded two contracts by Westland Helicopters Limited. The contracts will deliver a new laser for the Apache and a Target Weapons Effects System (TAGWES) for the Lynx AH Mk 7 helicopters. Deliveries will be performed during 2004.
- These contract awards show Saab Training Systems capabilities to integrate simulation systems on different platforms and with other training environments, says Johan Ohlson, President, Saab Training Systems.
- The contracts that we have signed with Saab Training Systems for the Helicopter Collective Training System are an illustration of the value that strategic partnering can deliver and prove that coherence in capability acquisition can support best value-for-money through life solutions, says Nick MacLeod-Ash, Collective Training Manager, WHL.
The Dual Laser Unit for the Apache combines the requirement for class 1 eye safe laser ranging for live firing with the Saab BT46 laser simulation system. The new helicopter systems are fully compliant with Saab Training Systems Direct Fire Weapon Effect Simulator (DFWES), which has been in service in the UK since 1994.
The development of the Dual Laser Unit and integration of the Lynx AH Mk 7 Target System is a joint effort between Saab Training Systems and Westland Helicopters. The new systems are an important capability expansion to the UKs existing Apache Collective Training System.
