Skyways chooses Saab Aircraft to Modify Fokker 50 Fleet

Skyways AB of Sweden has chosen Saab Aircraft to develop a modification to install the Air Precision ELT 96 on their fleet of 17 Fokker 50 aircraft.

The ELT 96 modification is approved in accordance with FAR/JAR 25 requirements and is the first application of Saab Aircraft’s Design Organization Approval (DOA) to a non-Saab aircraft type. The Installation includes mounting the ELT 96 unit above the ceiling in the tail along with a new antenna as well as installation of annunciation lights and switches in the cockpit.

As part of the modification package, Saab Aircraft will also provide maintenance instructions and an illustrated parts list for the modification. Air Precision ELT 96 hardware will be common to both Skyways Saab 340 and Fokker 50 solutions.

Peter Erlingborn, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Saab Aircraft states, “Saab Aircraft is delighted to work with Skyways as a launch customer for this new capability. Applying Saab’s engineering capabilities to other aircraft types is another step in our long term business strategy to broaden our product and services portfolio. The selection of Saab Aircraft by Skyways to modify their F50 fleet is a further acknowledgement of Saabs engineering expertise and builds on the already strong working relationship between Saab Aircraft and Skyways for aircraft support services.”

Saab Aircraft will also offer this modification to other F50 operators in need of an ELT solution.

Skyways flies to more destinations in Sweden than any other airline and currently operates 18 domestic and 8 international routes with in total 30 aircraft. During 2003, the airline carried over 1.3 million passengers, contributing to a turnover of 1.8 billion SEK. The company has 700 employees and its headquarters in Stockholm.
