Saab will deliver 56 EA Tactical Engagement Simulation Systems (TESS) for the Mobile Gun System (MGS) and 80 sets of Through Sight Video System for the Bradley A3. The majority of the work will be performed by Saab Training LLC in Orlando, Florida and Saab Training Systems in Huskvarna, Sweden.

“This contract is the result of three years of intense development that included defining the system and establishing an embedded Training Data Panel with General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS). It gives us excellent capabilities for introducing new cutting-edge technology for this and other programs that will save a lot of time and money for our customers,” says Ronnie Larsson, President, Saab Training LLC.

The MGS-TESS is unique as it is the first system to combine Force-On-Force MILES, Precision Gunnery and Through Sight Video into a single package. The system can also be used for instrumented training at the various combat training centers or during instrumented live firing. This provides significant acquisition and logistic cost savings. In addition, user friendliness and installation time are greatly improved as only one live training system is required.
MGS-TESS is based on existing Saab technology enhanced with insertions of new technology, including the custom-designed Modular Vehicle Interface (MVI), wireless detectors, wireless AAR, an embedded instrumentation interface, an Ethernet interface and Through Sight Video (TSV). The latter uses a unique solution that stores video and audio in a solid state memory. Recordings are event-controlled and the system supports instant replay of the latest engagement. TSV will also be used with the Bradley A3.
The systems will be delivered at the end of 2006.
The contract also includes five options, worth $12 million, for an additional 170 systems over the next 5 years, as well as adaptation and delivery of 80 sets of Through Sight Video Systems for Bradley A3.
