Modern technology means faster and safer deliveries

Delivery firm, ASA Transport, purchase transport management system from SaabTech Systems.

SaabTech Systems has received an order for a transport management system worth approximately two million kronor from delivery firm, ASA Transport in Stockholm. The new system will ensure that ASA Transport’s activities are more effective, reduce administrative time and speed up deliveries to the customers.

Each vehicle is fitted with a receiver for GPS (Global Positioning System) and a Mobitex modem. The transponder sends constant information about the vehicle’s position to a control centre via the Mobitex network.

The system works in practice by the customer ringing ASA Transport’s reception to place an order. From there a message is sent to one of the traffic controllers in a control centre who can see where the different vehicles are both on their own screens and on a large display screen. The traffic controller then sends an order to the vehicle that is best situated to carry out the assignment. The driver can see when an order is on the way from a status panel in the vehicle. Details of the order are also printed out on a small printer in the vehicle. If the driver has not acknowledged and taken the order within three minutes, it is then sent to another driver.
